IGNOU MEVP-01 Project – Occupational Safety, Health and Environment in Small Scale Foundries

In India, the development of industrial organizations in various sectors had a rapid and steady growth in terms of economic and technology since the execution of the economic development and liberalizing the government policies in the year 1991. The economic development in different fields cannot be accomplished by a country without developing its industries. There is a direct connection between the level of industrial organizational development and the economic growth of a country. In India, manufacturing industries contributed about thirty percent of the gross domestic product. Thus, industries are a major source of national income and employment development in all the sectors.

Objectives

• The main objectives of the study are:-
• To determine the perception of the foundry characteristics in terms of safety-related dimensions viz. personal, work place environment, safety practices and occupational health.
• To ascertain a systematic and objective approach to assess hazards and their associated risks that will provide an objective measure of an identified hazard as well as provide a method to control the risk.
• To assess the status of occupational safety, health and environment and to implement the safety management system in the foundries.
• To review the compliance to national statutes and standards on occupational safety, health and environment in small-scale foundries.
• To analyze the consequences of accidents in industries, specifically in small-scale foundry clusters.
• To assess the various contributing factors of accident in the small- scale foundry to evaluate the error committing characteristics.
• To determine the stress-level of workers in factories by measuring their eye parameters for safety assessment.
• To assess hazards to workers employed in the small-scale foundries and strategies to protect the workers from risks.
• To suggest measures and strategies to protect the occupational safety, health and environment in small-scale foundries.
