IGNOU DNHE-04 Project – Child Obesity among Preschool Children (Aged 2 to 5 Years) in Delhi

Obesity threatens to become the leading health problem of the 21st century which is emerging as a global nutritional concern. The increasing prevalence of overweight, obesity and its consequences promoted the World Health Organization to designate obesity as a global epidemic (WHO, 2000). The problem of obesity is confined not only to adults but also to children and adolescents in both developed and developing countries.

Objectives

• Following objectives are formulated for the proposed study:
• To study the growth pattern of pre-school children (aged 2 to 5 years).
• To examine the factors associated with overweight and obesity.
• To create general awareness among parents about the environmental determinants of obesity and co-morbidities associated with it.
