How can an International Student Pursue IGNOU Program from India

IGNOU has an International Division that deals with the admission for distance education of International Students. IGNOU has many international divisions and regional centers in several countries. Indian students or foreigners (NRI) who have migrated to foreign countries are eligible to take a course at IGNOU. This division was introduced in the year 1997 as a cell, and in 2002, it was made into a full-fledged division.

Objectives of IGNOU's International Division

  • The main objective of IGNOU's international division is to promote IGNOU programs outside India.
  • It is establishing bilateral and multilateral cooperation and exchanges.
  • It coordinates training programs for the personnel of open universities and open institutes outside India.
  • To provide pedagogical and technological support to overseas centers.
  • It offers consultancies to newly established universities outside India.

Admission Procedure

Currently, IGNOU offers about 60 academic programs for international students. The candidates are required to check out the below-given steps to apply for the courses.

The international student has two options to take admission in IGNOU. They can apply in IGNOU through study centers that are available in foreign countries or in any regional centers in India.

While applying for the course, the students must produce their valid study visa for the minimal duration of the course to the regional center of IGNOU.

Note:

  • If students are from Nepal and Bhutan, they are not required to submit the visa to IGNOU.
  • The student must have equally qualified to be eligible to take their preferred course at IGNOU.
  • Students must also submit the no-objection certificate from the concerned embassy.

Instructions for Foreigners who want to take Admission in IGNOU

Candidates are required to fill the application form with valid details, or else the application will be subjected to rejection.

While filling the application form, the candidates must be very cautious while entering the category code, because the change in the category code once the form is submitted shall not be entertained.

The application fee can be made either through demand draft or pay the order.

  • Passport copy.
  • Visa copy.
  • Recent No objection certificate from the candidate's embassy.

  • A translated copy of the educational certificates is required (if it is in Hindi/English translated copy is not necessary)
  • Residence proof of the candidate registered from the concerned Overseas Study Centres.
  • Migration/Transfer Certificates from the last University/Board attended
