But, they hardly suggest their patients to resort to some home remedies to manage diabetes, for they are more effective, more abundantly available and less costly in comparison with the medicines. The present blog focuses on the 7 home remedies to manage diabetes. Here they are:

Bitter Gourd (करेला): Bitter gourd, in addition to being a food ingredient, is a very effective home remedy to combat diabetes. It contains at least three active substances having anti-diabetic properties, including Charantin, that plays a very effective role in lowering the blood-glucose level, vicine and polypeptide-p, an insulin-like compound. The cumulative effects of all these substances maintain the blood-sugar level in the optimum range. This is indeed one of the 7 home remedies to manage diabetes effectively.
In January, 2011 the outcome of a month-long clinical trial was published in the prestigious JOURNAL OF ETHNOPHARMACOLOGY. It showed that a 2,000 mg dose of this vegetable item drastically reduced the blood glucose levels among the patients with type 2 diabetes.

Fenugreek (मेंथी): Fenugreek has the wonderful ability of hastening the process of digestion and absorption of carbohydrates. Its seeds (trigonella foenum graecum) are soluble in fibre and thereby it proves to be highly effective in reducing fasting blood sugar levels, glucose intolerance. Consumption of Fenugreek lowers total cholesterol, LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol and triglycerides.
In a research conducted recently, it has been established that with just 100 gm of defatted fenugreek seed powder in the daily diet of diabetics, significantly lowered their fasting blood glucose levels.

Indian Gooseberry or Amla: Amla or Indian gooseberry is one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurveda. It has got the distinction of being one of the most effective herbs in combating diabetes.
According to a Journal published in a world’s prominent health magazine, it is the antioxidant properties of Amla that makes it very effective for diabetics. This fruit has rich content of polyphenol and that helps protect the body from the oxidative properties of blood sugar. The same compound also helps in releasing insulin by preventing insulin resistance, the very cause of diabetes. This is also one of the 7 home remedies to manage diabetes and bring it in control.

Drumstick or Moringa Oleifera Leaves: The leaves of Drumstick contain the nutrients which increase insulin secretion in the body and thus act as a natural way to bring the blood sugar level under control. In the findings of a research published in the international Journal of Health and Nutrition, it was revealed that the diabetics who were administered the leaves of drumstick leaf supplements for 3 months, showed decline in their blood glucose levels every year.

Mango Leaves: As per the findings of the latest research conducted worldwide on mango leaves, it has now been established beyond any reasonable doubts that the tender leaves of the mango contain tannins known as anthocyanidins that help treating diabetes. The people suffering from diabetes can boil some fresh mango leaves in a glass of water in the night and leave the glass to cool whole night. In the morning, they can consume the water in empty stomach.

Sunlight: Vitamin D, the researchers of today find, have inextricable link with insulin resistance and diabetes. According to the recent studies, Vitamin D has a very big role to play in the production of Insulin in the body. Simply put, higher the level of Vitamin D, less prone you will be to develop type 2 diabetes.
In order to avoid Vitamin D deficiency, sit under sun for at least 30 minutes daily,. You can also include Vitamin D rich foods in your diet, such as orange juice, milk, cheese, yogurt, cereals, etc.

Water: Dehydration can wreak havoc to the diabetics. And this is the reason why water is something people suffering from diabetes can ill afford to ignore. If dehydration occurs in the body, blood sugar may fall alarmingly and the patient may not be able to stand of his or her feet for long. In order to avoid any such situation, consumption of 2.5 litre of water is a must for the person suffering from diabetes.
